This advice popped up during the trial of the late Jeffrey Epstein. You know, the one who mysteriously perished in prison while under twenty four hour televised guard?
They are just as relevant now as they were then. Shit, this should have been engraved into the cornerstones of buildings during the infancy of this nation. I have seen slight variations of it and this is an amalgamation of them.
When the party of family values takes a breath from their incessant whataboutery, remind them of these things. I am seriously considering having parts or all of this done as stickers. And I will keep reminding folks, even if I have to stick one on to your head. Get these ideas out of your head. They are unadulterated bullshit. Cops and conservatives have manufactured these to absolve themselves of guilt or responsibility. Like my late father said “If it looks like a duck, quacks, and waddles, it’s not a fucking ostrich.” When you hear this crap, call people out for it.
And a parting thought: I saw a huge amount of people on the right clutching their pearls when the idea of defunding the police first surfaced. The were all “Who will a woman call if she’s raped?” If you know someone who is a victim and reported it to police, AND is willing to talk to you about it . . . see if they tried and convicted the perpetrator. Chance are, the entire thing quickly devolved into victim shaming and stopped there. Why the fuck would you champion such an obviously broken system?
So if that is your rationale for keeping policing in America “the way it has been”, I will leave you with the words of Burt Gummer. (Google him if you don’t know, do some of the work.)
Is your head up your ass for the warmth?
