Here we go

July 02, 2012  •  2 Comments

Due to circumstances beyond my control (thank you, Mother Nature) I had to delay things here a day or two.  Lots of wind means lots of broken stuff and no electricity.  Now that I can run the aging editing computer, I figured it was a good time to get things rolling.

As promised, here is a sample of some of the stuff I have been doing in the last couple of months.  Right now, I am shooting with the Leica M9 and a Nikon D7000.  The heavy artillery is still the DL28, but I think for simplicity I will swap that before too long for a Nikon D800e.  That will give me access to a lot more lenses and goodies, most of which I already have.  The possibility of shooting with a tilt shift lens that does not cost as much as a car intrigues me. :D

The images are HD (1920 by 1080), but should scale to your browser window.  Please let me know if they are not.  Comments are welcomed.

1. A WACO biplane close-up. You can see the obvious marks from the pinking shears along the overlapping edges. It's hard to believe this was perfectly normal aircraft construction. It is essentially fabric stretched over wood and coated with a paint and varnish mixture.

The water is really this wonderful medley of blues and greens in this little bay.  I would have liked to photograph this from a much lower vantage point, but vandals and safety concerns have blocked that avenue off. Leica M9 and 50mm Summicron.

3. Some late day light and the chance discovery of an old car dealership. I was taken by the juxtaposition of the red and blues, so I had to stop and make a few pictures. Lake Superior from the beach in Grand Marais, Michigan.  I was struck with how blue (and cold, goodness it was cold) the water was. Pretty much straight out of the camera, just a resize and a bit of sharpening. Leica M9 and 50mm Summicron.

I really enjoyed the away time, Nancy. :-) But the heat was opressive for part of the journey. :-/

Looking good, seems like your trip was what you hoped for and then some.
